I'ved used backtrack for a few years and have the system so i can use gpu power to brute force hashes
I find it fascinating how people can do this hashcat still works on my other drive but i have moved over to kali linux... i have had a about 6 or 7 attempts so far trying to install the amd drivers. because most people post what they did and you follow and its totally wrong means a fresh install. anyway I am going to do a step by step guide once i have the system fully installed with the amd drivers and opencl to allow me to run hashcat... there is actually quite an interesting thread on the hashcat forums http://hashcat.net/forum/thread-2222.html
If you follow through make sure you read the final posts first as a bit of a mix of 32 bit and 64bit confusion going on.
I have followed so many peoples walk throughs and none have worked
Although from what i gather the problem is from a 3.7 kernel naming which has to be patched to fix the problem. but as yet not really having any experience in patching a kernel or kernel module i am a little lost. im sure that once i have the driver installed getting hashcat to run should be easier.(one will hope..)
Will keep you posted i will be doing a full list of what ive done all commands used and hopefully this will help someone else who is having the same issue..
I am running 2 x 7970 amd cards
